What a year it has been! Earlier in 2021, we launched the Nordic Criminology Blog as a joint initiative of the Nordic Journal of Criminology (NJC) and the Nordic Research Council for Criminology (NSfK).

We have published 19 blogposts from scholars engaging with criminology from a Nordic perspective. The Blog has been used to publish new research findings on topics ranging from violence in close relationships to narratives of police violence among ethnic minority men. It has also provided scholars with the opportunity to revisit their research, and to share new projects they are about to embark on.

The Nordic Criminology Blog has been a forum for scholars to share their experiences and lessons learned during the course of their research – whether it is on translational criminology or prison ethnography. We have also seen comments on Nordic criminology from a broader perspective – for example, regarding the future of Finish criminology, and whether or not Nordic criminology is too Nordic. And, last but certainly not least, the Blog has provided opportunities for scholars to gaze beyond academia, to comment on shifts in criminal policy or reflect on the role of criminology in politics. This – and much more! – has been featured throughout this year. We invite you to visit the Blog archives, to read the posts in full.

All in all, it appears that the Blog has filled the function we hoped it would in our introductory post: to be an easily accessible platform for engaging with Nordic criminology – within the Nordic countries, and beyond. Thank you all for reading and contributing!
